We are now raising meat rabbits. We use their manure to help fertilize our garden and our girls enjoy spending time with the rabbits. We have found that rabbits are a very easy animal for children to start learning responsibility with as they are easy to take care of. We have New Zealands, Californians and Rexes. We eat the meat and help supplement our livestock guardian dog. It tastes very similar to chicken, but it is much more tender. If a recipe calls for chicken, then you can typically replace it with rabbit meat. We are hoping to learn how to tan pelts in the future. We feel it is important to teach our girls to use every part of the animal and our goal is to have zero waste.
